Workshops & Speaking

Self-defense increases our capacity to choose.

Self Discovery Self Defense offers workshops that help people explore their strengths, boundaries, and options through conversation and practice. We learn how bodies work, how we respond under pressure, and how we can support ourselves and each other.

Workshops are designed around your group’s interests and circumstances, with a balance of discussion and physical participation that fits your needs.

Workshop Options

  • Self-Defense Foundations - Explore awareness, boundaries, communication, and practical physical skills. Practice recognizing options, creating distance, and responding when someone crosses a boundary.

  • Groundwork - Practice ways to defend yourself when you are on the ground, including how to move, create space, and work toward getting up.

  • Verbal Self-Defense and Self-Awareness - Explore how fear, emotional triggers, and familiar patterns affect our responses. Practice expressing boundaries and making choices in difficult interactions.

  • Specialized Physical Training - Address particular situations or needs, including weapons-related training and adapting self-defense skills to mobility needs or assistive devices. The focus and format are agreed upon in advance.

  • Safety and Support at Work - Help your team identify concerns, consider risk factors, and practice ways to prepare for and support each other. Workshops can also address the aftermath of a frightening event: what happened, what changes may help, and what people need to feel more comfortable returning to their work.

Who Can Participate?

  • Workshops are available for nonprofit organizations, community groups, families and friends, small businesses, and corporate teams.

  • I work with adults of all genders and with teens. Groups may be mixed-gender or organized specifically for women or teen girls. Children can participate in family self-defense training.

  • No previous martial arts experience is required.

  • Workshops can be arranged for an invited group, residents, employees, or public registration. We’ll agree on the audience and participation arrangements with the host.

Speaking, Writing & Advocacy

I welcome inquiries about presentations, facilitated discussions, writing, advocacy, and safety policy review.

  • Topics may include self-defense, personal awareness, boundaries, fear responses, communication, and how communities create conditions that support safety and choice.

  • If you have a particular concern, audience, or topic in mind, you are welcome to ask. We can discuss what you need and whether my experience is a good fit.
