Two Kinds of Fear

There are two kinds of fear. The fear that comes from outside of us (external sources), and that which is inside of us (internal sources).

Training yourself to deal with external sources of fear (war, domestic violence, violent crime) only, leaves you still with the internal sources of fear (panic, anxiety, embarrassment, isolation, self loathing).

Training yourself to deal with the internal sources of fear, leaves you only having to deal with the external sources.

Training yourself to deal with the internal empowers you in a way that whatever you do to deal with the external is measurably more effective.

You’ve seen the fighter who gets beat down but not beaten? That’s what I’m talking about. Wounded, but not broken? Same thing. No amount of martial training can keep you 100% safe. There are no guarantees in life.

But love for yourself, peace in your heart, a sense of joy and laughter, and connectivity will go a long way to keeping you safe in both mind and body every day of every year no matter what happens. Really really.
